New York Stem Cell Foundation to accept bitcoin donations

 In News

The New York Stem Cell Foundation, a nonprofit stem cell research advocate, announced Oct. 2 it plans to accept bitcoin donations through payments company BitPay. This will allow 100 percent of users’ donations to go directly into stem cell research, according to the press release.

“Through bitcoin, we can embrace new forms of giving to meet our donors where they are, wherever they are worldwide,” Susan L. Solomon, NYSCF co-founder and CEO said. “As a private philanthropic organization NYSCF’s nimbleness and flexibility allow us to fund and conduct the most current and high-reward research. Working with BitPay allows NYSCF to extend our flexibility to our supporters.”

By engaging with bitcoin, the organization is attempting to prove its commitment to technological innovation, according to the press release. NYSCF also plans to expand its global mission and remove financial barriers, and it believes bitcoin can help in this mission.
