House Floor Activity

Consideration of Legislation Related to a Budget Resolution – The House is expected to take up a budget resolution addressing the budget for FY 2021 for the purposes of sending reconciliation instructions to various committees. The reconciliation process is expected to be used to facilitate passage of a COVID-19 pandemic relief measure.

 

H.R. 447 – National Apprenticeship Act of 2021 (Rep. Scott (VA) – Education and Labor) [PDF] – This bill would authorize appropriations of approximately $3.9 billion over five years for the purpose of expanding registered apprenticeships. This measure passed during the 116th Congress by a vote of 246-140.

 

According to a notice from House Majority Leader Hoyer, the House may hold votes through the week and into the weekend.

Senate Floor Activity

The Senate stands adjourned until 3:00pm on Monday, February 1, 2021.

 

Following Leader remarks, the Senate will proceed to Executive Session and resume consideration of Executive Calendar #4, Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas, of the District of Columbia, to be Secretary of Homeland Security, post-cloture.

 

At 5:30pm, the Senate will vote on confirmation of the Mayorkas nomination.

 

On Tuesday, February 2nd, following the conclusion of morning business, the Senate will proceed to the consideration of Executive Calendar #5, Peter Paul Montgomery Buttigieg, of Indiana, to be Secretary of Transportation. The time until 12:00 noon will be equally divided between the two Leaders or their designees. At 12:00 noon, the Senate will vote on confirmation of the Buttigieg nomination.

 

Monday, February 1st at 5:30pm – roll call vote:

  1. Confirmation of Executive Calendar #4, Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas, of the District of Columbia, to be Secretary of Homeland Security.

 

The Senate may consider further Biden Administration nominees and/or legislation related to budget reconciliation and COVID-19 throughout the remainder of the week.
